The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – How GS1 standards impacts patient safety
09 Sep 2021
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the UK has been at the forefront of the Department of Health and Social Care programme to incorporate GS1 Standards into the NHS.
Two years and one pandemic after the end of the scheme Leeds is starting to see the rewards of all the foundations they have placed. Mark Songhurst, Project Manager Scan4Safety (Programme Lead) at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will explain how GS1 standards impacts patient safety.

The key learning outcomes attendees can take away from this session:
- How using GS1 standards has opened the doors to conversations with Clinicians about how we can do things better;
- Product Recall is achievable for patient including implanted items if industry becomes a partner in healthcare provision not a supplier;
- How understanding GS1 standards and combining them can power new and innovative solutions at affordable costs;
- How technology does not take nursing and clinical staff away from the bedside but brings them closer.
