Connected Parcels – UPU and Correios will adopt EPC / RFID

4 December 2018

Correios (Brazil Post), in partnership with UPU (Universal Postal Union) began work on the third phase of their Global Monitoring System (GMS) project.

All international and domestic parcels, letters and packages will be identified with EPC/RFID tags, to enable their traceability.

Brazil will be the first to implement this project, acting like a giant pilot, with the plan to roll out later to more than 200 UPU member countries.

The project is expected to be completed by 2021 and 100% of traceable items labeled with EPC / RFID tags.  The developed platform also allows new modules to be created and added.

Carreios has already stated that they will develop an asset management module based on GS1 standards namely Global Returnable Asset Identifier (GRAI) and Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI).
